Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by World Wild Fund. Every year on the last Saturday of March, people across nations turn their lights off for an hour to show support for the need to take action against climate change. In 2009, I was saddened that my home town had not previously participated and I went on to work with the city council and non-profit groups to bring Earth Hour to my home city (Burgas). A president of Interact club Burgas Primorie, a local Rotary club for rising leaders, I worked with 15 of my peers from the club to engage local businesses and non-profits with whom we set an hour-long program of fire performances, step dancing and live music. I was in charge of coordinating the event locally in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
